Durgapur: With the increase in the number of COVID positive cases Gopalmath area of Durgapur, the local residents decided to have a lockdown of 3 days in that area.
The number of COVID cases in the Gopalmath area is at its peak.
According to news sources, the lockdown will be imposed from Wednesday to Friday. During this lockdown, all markets, shops, and other places will remain closed.
This decision was taken after a sudden increase in the number of positive cases in the area and two brothers of the same family in the Joburband area of Gopalmath lost their lives to COVID.
The area was declared a containment zone as was sealed off. Swab samples of more than 60 people were collected and sent for testing.
The local residents of Gopalmath along with Mayor in Council, Prabath Chattopadhyay went to SDO of Durgapur Anirban Koley yesterday for the permission of lockdown and got the approval.
In Paschim Bardhaman the total COVID cases is almost 4,000.
According to the 2nd September Bulletin by the West Bengal government, the number of new COVID cases reported on 1st September is 100. This takes the total number of COVID cases in the state to 3,957.
172 people were discharged in 1 day. At present, there are 802 active cases in the district.
