36 deep tubewells to be built soon in Durgapur

Back in 2017, when the lock-gate of Damodar barrage was not functioning, the Durgapur municipal corporation officials had thought of an idea of an alternative source of drinking water – the Nachan Dam. But unfortunately, the plans didn’t leave the table.

In the summer the water level of barrage goes down a significant amount creating drinking water shortage. To tackle this situation this year Durgapur municipal corporation has already marked some high water scarcity areas and planned to build some tubewells.

In the primary stage, 36 places will get the tubewells. The inauguration has been done on Wednesday by the mayor Dilip Agasthi at Palashdiha Pumping Station. Mayor of municipal corporation water department Pabitra Chattopadhyay said ” Approximately 12 crore rupees have been spent to build 36 tubewells with a depth of 450-500 ft. The professors of Jadavpur University helped to find the underground level of drinking water. According to their propositions, the work has been assigned.”
