48 inmates tested positive in Durgapur

Durgapur: Recently on 1st September one under-trial prisoner tested positive to COVID. On 31st August he started showing symptoms of COVID and high blood pressure.

He was then shifted to Durgapur Sub-Division Hospital for treatment and when he was tested for COVID, the results came out positive.

After that a team was sent to Durgapur Sub Correctional Home for the rapid testing of the other inmates in the facility.

According to news reports, out of the 151 inmates who were tested, 48 tested positive to COVID. This created a situation of concern among the Durgapur Administration.

Out of those 48 who tested positive, 5 were shifted to Sanaka Hospital for treatment as their situation deteriorated.

The rest of them are kept in isolation inside the Durgapur Sub-Correctional home premises and their treatments are being done there.

This situation also raised a question regarding how normal court proceedings will take place. Virtual proceedings are being suggested by the advocates keeping the current situation in mind.

Also, 12 CISF jawans stationed at Durgapur steel Plant tested positive to COVID. This also raised a matter of concern among the administration.

West Bengal government district wise bulletin released on 5th September showed 130 new cases reported in a single day in the Paschim Bardhaman district. 86 people recovered and were discharged.

As on 4th September, 856 active cases were reported in total in Paschim Bardhaman district.
