Google’s much awaited UPI enabled mobile payments app Tez similar to the BHIM app finally launched in India today and was officially launched by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Delhi.
The news was confirmed by the finance ministry via tweet.
Tez will enable Indian users link up their phones to their bank accounts to pay for goods securely in physical stores and online as well as allow person-to-person money transfers.
This app is yet another step towards digital India.
How to install and Register on the App?
2 . Click the link from your Mobile browser and download the app
3 . Select the language and proceed, Enter your mobile number (Use the mobile number that is registered with your bank account)
(Note : The mobile number you use here should be the same one that you have registered with your bank account and the SIM should be in the current device for verification)
4 . Select the Google account you want to use with Tez and you will be verified with OTP
5 . Now you can either choose your mobile lock screen password or Choose Google PIN (Better to choose Google PIN)
6 . You’re done setting up!
How to link your Bank account?
1 . Now you are at the homepage of the app
2 . Select the Add bank account option on the top under your username and add the bank.
3 . Now Tez will verify the phone number attached with the bank account via OTP
4 . Done !! You will see you bank account displayed. Select that bank account under Settings >> Bank account.
How to send money to someone?
1. In the home screen, Tap on the New option
2. Now you can either select a contact, enter UPI ID or mobile number of the user whom you want to send the money.
3. Enter amount of you want to send!
4. Complete the payment
5. You will now get Rs 51 cashback after the 1st Payment.(No minimum amount)
(To get ₹51, you need to send minimum ₹1 to a Tez App User. Tell your friends to register and send each other.)
Unlike popular Paytm, Tez is not a mobile wallet where one can store money and top it when needed.
Instead it’s more like BHIM app or the PhonePe app by Flipkart which links up your phone with your bank accounts to let you use your phone as a way to channel payments from those accounts.
Google has tied up with banks such as Axis, HDFC Bank, ICICI and State Bank of India and others that support UPI.
Meanwhile its list of online payment partners include Dominos, RedBus, PVR Cinemas, and Jet Airways among others.
Also, besides English, the app supports languages like Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.
