Location of Durgapur Barrage

Durgapur Barrage is located in the city of Durgapur, West Bengal. It is situated adjacent to the Birbhanpur area of Durgapur.

If you want to visit this place from Durgapur Railway Station, it will take you 10 minutes to reach.

It is built on the Damodar River and connects the two districts of Paschim Bardhaman and Bankura in West Bengal.

History of Durgapur Barrage

As the Industrial Revolution started in Durgapur, there was a huge urgency of water in factories. So in order to boost up the industrial revolution, the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) constructed the Durgapur barrage on the Damodar river.

The construction of the Durgapur Barrage started in the year 1953. It was completed and opened in the year 1955.

The Barrage was initially operated by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) but was later handed over to the West Bengal government.

The West Bengal government took control over it in the year 1964.

This Barrage is also built to overcome the flood situation that may arise when water is released from the Maithon and Panchet dams of DVC.
