West Bengal Shishu Sathi Scheme for children’s heart treatment – Eligibility, How to apply

The West Bengal government has launched the Shishu Sathi scheme for the treatment of heart diseases among children.

The scheme was launched back in 2013.


According to the government, over 3,000 children get free heart treatment through this scheme every year.

To be eligible for the Sishu Sathi scheme, the patient should be under the age of 12 years.

There are no eligibility criteria regarding family income or category in this scheme.


Partnered Hospitals

The West Bengal government has partnered with three private hospitals regarding free heart surgery for children under the scheme.

The private hospitals are:

  1. BM Birla Heart Research Centre, Kolkata.
  2. RN Tagore Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Kolkata.
  3. Mission Hospital, Durgapur.

Government hospitals that have cutting-edge facilities for pediatric care:

  1. Seth SukhlalKarnani Memorial Hospital
  2. B.C. Roy Memorial Hospital for Children
  3. R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital

How to Apply

To apply for the Shishu Sathi Scheme for free heart treatment, you need to contact any of the following with all the details regarding the patient:

  1. CMOH of the district.
  2. BMOH in the block level.
  3. DFWO in Kolkata.

The treatment of most heart diseases among children is eligible under the scheme. For a more detailed list, you need to contact the CMHO of your district.

Do I need to pay any cash for heart treatment in the hospital under the Sishu Sathi scheme?
