Learner’s License: How To Apply Online In India (All States) 2024

If you want to learn how to drive a vehicle in India, you need to obtain a learner’s license first.

A learner’s license is a provisional and restricted license that allows you to practice driving on public roads with a supervisor.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of the Central government has made it easier to apply for a learner license online through the official website of Parivahan Sarathi at parivahan.gov.in.

Eligibility to apply for a learner’s licence in India

To be eligible to apply for a learner’s licence in India,

  1. You must be at least 16 years old for a two-wheeler without gear, 18 years old for a two-wheeler with gear or a four-wheeler, and 20 years old for a transport vehicle.
  2. You must have a valid proof of age and address.

Documents required to apply for a learner’s licence in India

You will need the following documents to apply for a learner’s licence in India,

  1. Age Proof
  2. Address Proof
  3. Medical Certificate (if applicable)
  4. Scanned copy of the signature of the applicant
  5. Mobile number

Steps to apply for a learner licence online in India

To apply for a learner licence online,

Step 1: Go to the official website of Parivahan

  1. First, go to the official website of Parivahan at parivahan.gov.in
  2. Next, click on “Online Services” and select “Driving Licence Related Services” from the drop-down.
  3. Select your state.
  4. A new page will open up.

Step 2: Open the “Learner’s Licence” application form

  1. On the dashboard, click on the “Learner’s Licence” option on the main menu.
  2. Next, click on the “Application For New Learner Licence” option.
  3. Next, click on the ‘Continue’ button.
  4. The “Application for Learner’s Licence (LL)” page will open. Select the category as applicable.
  5. Next, click on the “Submit” button.

Now, you need to complete your E-KYC using your Aadhaar number or mobile number. According to the Parivahan website, if you complete this process using an Aadhaar number, you can take the LL Test from your home or any preferred location, no need to visit RTO. So here I will continue using the Aadhaar number.

Step 3: Complete E-KYC

  1. Now, select the “Submit via Aadhaar Authentication” option.
  2. Next, click on the “Submit” button.
  3. Next, enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID by selecting the appropriate option.
  4. Next, click on the “Generate OTP” button.
  5. Next, enter the OTP received in the specified field.
  6. Next, tick all the checkboxes, and click on the “Authenticate” option.

You can also choose to continue by verifying your mobile number by selecting the “Submit without Aadhaar Authentication” option.

Step 4: Fill out Learner’s Licence application form

  1. Your Aadhar details will appear. Click on the “Proceed” button.
  2. Next, in the form, fill out your Country of Birth, Qualification, and other required details.
  3. Next, select the vehicle class for which you are applying by selecting and clicking on the arrow.
  4. Next, fill in the checkboxes as applicable.
  5. Next, click on the ‘Self Declaration (Form 1)’ button.
  6. Next, fill it up and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  7. Next, fill out the declaration checkboxes as applicable.
  8. Next, enter the captcha code and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Your application will be successfully submitted. Now you need to upload the documents and pay the required fees.

Step 5: Upload Documents

  1. Now, click the ‘Next’ button and then click on the ‘Proceed’ button.
  2. Your application number and date of birth will be automatically filled out. Click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  3. Next, click on the ‘Ok’ button.
  4. Next, upload all the required documents, such as Age Proof, Address Proof, and medical certificate (if applicable).
  5. Next, click on the ‘Next’ button.

Step 6: Upload photo and signature

  1. Next, click on the ‘Proceed’ button.
  2. Next, upload your photo and signature.
  3. Next, click on the ‘Save Photo and Signature Image Files’ button.
  4. Next, click on the ‘Next’ button.

You do not need to upload a photo in case you have completed e-KYC though Aadhaar.

Step 7: Pay Fees Online

  1. Now, make sure the ‘FEE PAYMENT’ option is selected and click on the ‘Proceed’ button.
  2. You will see the details of the fees that you need to pay for your Learner’s Licence application.
  3. Next, choose your preferred payment gateway and enter the captcha code.
  4. Next, click on the ‘Pay Now’ button.
  5. Next, accept the terms and click on the ‘Proceed for Payment’ button.
  6. Complete the payment process and take a printout or save the receipt for future reference.

After the fee payment, your application will be successfully submitted. If you have not done eKYC through Aadhaar, you may need to visit RTO.

By following these steps, you can easily apply for a learner licence online in India.

After a few days, you will receive the password to take the LL Test online. After you have passed it, you can download your Learner License from the official website of Parivahan.

Learner Licence validity

A learner’s license is valid for six months and you can apply for a permanent driving license after 30 days of getting it.

In case the validity of your learner’s license has expired and you have still not applied for a Driving Licence, you can renew it online.
